I.e. and e.g. are both Latin abbreviations.

I.e E.g
I.e. is the abbreviation for id est and means “in other words.” E.g. stands for exempli gratia and means “for example” or "example given."
The abbreviation i.e. is used to restate an idea more clearly or offer more information. The abbreviation e.g. is used to provide an example.
It happened in January, i.e., three months ago. (i.e. = in other words) Abhishek was the school champion of many activities (e.g., chess, badminton, 110m hurdles, and high jump). (e.g. = for example)
